Seniority Has its Privileges

Flickr: Seniority Has its PrivilegesMy supervisor wanted to move a couple of people around (so that our team is sitting together), so he asked our facilities department to reassign some nearby cubes when they went vacant. One of them turned out to have windows. It’s also larger than normal.

I’ve been on the team the longest — in fact, longer than him — so he decided I should get that cube. Someone else moved into the cube I’d had for the past three years, and I moved across the corridor. This happened during the last week of January, so I got to watch the beginning of the February 12 snowstorm right from my desk.

I’m still getting used to things but I’ve decided I do enjoy it. The only problem? It’s an end cube and not as enclosed as other cubes. That means I can’t get away with much anymore…

You might note that there’s no display on the monitor screen. That’s not an accident; I decided to shut down for the evening first. I’d also already undocked my computer; it’s in the laptop bag. These were particularly good decisions since the vice president walked by about the time my flash went off.
