Single Pride Day

Another good one from LiveJournal Writer’s Block:

Given that we’re one week out from Valentines, how do you feel about the approaching holiday? Will you participate or abstain? If you’re not in a relationship, how will you celebrate your single status?

When Valentine’s Day falls during the week I make a point of wearing all black (or as close as I can reasonably get). If I get asked about my plans, I then point to what I’m wearing and say, “I am an anti-Valentine.” It’s pretty effective.

I’ve been non-single across a few Valentine’s Days here and there and I’ve enjoyed doing something quiet and together — it’s one night that everybody thinks having a “date night” is normal — but I don’t see the need to spend a lot of money or buy into the hoopla. Cooking dinner and snuggling in front of a DVD is fine with me. After all, your partner is theoretically the reason for the holiday.

This year, my main interest in February 14 is that it’s going to be the middle day of a three-day weekend. After the week I’m about to have, I will welcome the chance to do nothing with open arms.
