We keep our AC at 80 during the day and 70 at night, thanks to a programmable thermostat. Plus we signed up to have the AC cycle during peak hours. Nemo's room gets really hot because of the building's alignment with the sun so I need to get some blackout curtains to see if that'll help. Anyway, our bill is now $150 during the summer, though we recently tried an experiment where we had the temperature start to go down at 4 pm instead of 5 pm... cost us an extra $80 last month!

I just read your Facebook status (I've fallen off LJ, I'm afraid). What a tough decision to make. :( Prayers are with you during this difficult time, but it's for the best for all involved, sounds like.

and just because a trait is genetic doesn't mean it can't change over time. things develop.

obvious: i wasn't born with the full traits of a woman at birth. that didn't hit til puberty and later.

Check out the concept of the "Big Five" personality traits -- it seems that the large scale "tone" of personality may be genetically "determined", but the particular way it's expressed is defined by environment.

Anyway - wikipedia on the Big Five

I LOVE the Monterey Peninsula & Big Sur coast down to San Simeon. Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Carmel-by-the-Sea, etc.

There is amazing scenery, it is sweater weather, the towns are very walk friendly, and although there are crowded areas (Monterey & Pacific Grove) there are also very isolated places as well. You have the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway US-1) hugging the coast, and amazing, photogenic scenery.

If you get tired of the isolation, there is the Monterey Aquarium, Historic Cannery Row (which is now tourist trap shops that play on the history, but fun nonetheless) and you are close to wine country too.

From what I hear, the coast north of San Francisco is also excellent, all the way up to Washington State.

I'll try to tell you some more stories about you and your father. Remind me; but, beware, you may hear repeats from time to time. Did the memory box help at all?
